2018-19 Vaccine Information-FLU VACCINE AVAILABLE
2018-19 SEASONAL INFLUENZA: Seasonal Influenza Injectable Vaccine for 2018-19 is AVAILABLE
The CDC recommends the Seasonal Influenza Vaccine for ALL INDIVIDUALS > 6 months of age.
Additionally, there is a stronger formulation of the Seasonal Influenza Vaccine (High Dose) that is approved for individuals over 64 years of age. We recommend this for all patients over the age of 64.
SCHEDULE YOUR VACCINATION: To schedule a Flu vaccination, please schedule an appointment with our nurse, or ask for a Flu shot during your regular scheduled appointment with your doctor.
Tdap (WHOOPING COUGH): Due a a resurgence in Pertussis (Whooping Cough) it is now recommended that adults receive this vaccine once, if they have not had a Diptheria-Tetnaus booster in the last two years. It is approved by the FDA for individuals from over 10 years of age, Insurance coverage for this vaccine is variable. The cost of the vaccine is $75.
SHINGLES VACCINE: Shingrix, an improved vaccine which significantly lowers your risk of getting Shingles (Herpes Zoster), is now available and FDA approved for individuals over 50 years of age. This vaccine requires 2 doses separated by 2 months and is much more effective than the older Zostavax
Shingles is a very painful skin infection of Herpes Zoster. This condition can be quite disabling and occurs with greater frequency as we become older.
Even if you have had a prior case of Shingles or the Zostavax vaccine, you will benefit from the new Shingrix vaccine. There are some contraindications for the vaccine and you must make an appointment to discuss this vaccine with your physician prior to receiving the vaccine.
The cost of the vaccine is $275. Medicare part D will cover some of the cost as a drug benefit. It is not clear whether other third party insurers will cover this cost.
We require payment for the vaccine at the time of administration and will give you a claim document that you can use for your potential insurance reimbursement.
CERVICAL CANCER VACCINE: Gardasil, a cervical cancer vaccine, is available. This vaccine is FDA approved for female patients ages 8-26. Please call and schedule a nurse vaccine appointment if interested.
This vaccine is highly effective in preventing cervical cancer and genital warts. Three separate shots are required at 0 months, 2 months and 6 months.
Insurance coverage is variable and our charge for the vaccine is $250 per dose.
